Plastic deformation, also known as permanent deformation, is defined as an irreversible change in shape caused by the application of an external force. The process that induces plastic deformation of a material into a desired shape and characteristic is known as metal forming. Metal forming oils are divided into forging, rolling, drawing, form rolling and press oil. The appropriate metal forming oils are chosen depending on processing method, materials, components, and processing difficulty.
